The Transcontinental Railroad

Built between 1863 and 1869, the Transcontinental Railroad linked the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States for the first time. Its construction involved the laying of more than 1,500 miles of track by the Union Pacific and Central Pacific railroad companies.
