After trawling through old StyleForum and Ask Andy posts on decent, value-for-money English shoes I’ve finally bitten the bullet and ordered my first pair of Crockett & Jones’s. Buying shoes by mail order is always a risk but with the yen being so strong at the moment I thought it was worth a go. Next time I return home I might even make the 3-hour drive down to Northampton and check out a few factory shops (I’ll probably need this PDF map, which shows all the main shoe manufacturers’ locations in and around the city). I wonder if they’ll allow factory tours like this:
